Our new monthly series asks: What decor best suits each zodiac sign?
For Sagittarius, an expansive, light-filled space is ideal, writes Jill Krasny.

Home decor inspiration can come from anywhere, including an unexpected place: astrology. But whereas moody Scorpios prefer a home that feels like a private retreat, outgoing Sagittarians may crave something different. As their zodiac season gets underway (November 22-December 21), it’s time to ask: how do you design the perfect home for a Sagittarius?
“Sagittarians can make any space their own,” says Anthony Perrotta, an astrologer and interior designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. As adventurers, they want to live somewhere that feels unique, so would jump at the chance to explore Magic Hills, an exotic private reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Set across three luxurious lodges, the home engages powerfully with the surrounding landscape of the Karoo, a semi-desert region home to black rhinos and leopards.

Sagittarians are driven by curiosity, which makes a home with an abundance of space ideal. Windows, too, help satisfy this desire for a sense of endless space: Sagittarians love lots of light, and thrive on immersing themselves in nature. A balcony or outdoor space is enticing, but what ultimately makes their home perfect is the amount of light pouring in. Villa Katsura, a 23,500-square-foot estate on the peninsula of Little Dix Bay, in the British Virgin Islands, has all the tropical views a Sagittarius could want, through expanses of glazed bifolding doors, plus an open-plan kitchen that leads to a sun-drenched deck.
When it comes to furniture, Sagittarians dislike anything bulky, structured or heavy, which can leave them feeling constrained and at times claustrophobic. For this reason, Perrotta suggests avoiding pieces that create a visual barrier or add clutter. A Warwick Place apartment near Little Venice, in London, features a spacious double-height lounge dotted with carefully chosen pieces, while a huge hydraulic glazed door opens into the garden offering light and a connection to nature.

Given Sagittarians’ penchant for weaving ideas together—Perrotta calls them “the storytellers, the teachers and, in some ways, the creators”—unexpected features such as bold accent walls resonate with this sign. “There should be a good amount of warmer tones and perhaps a slight boho or eclectic style,” he says. “Bursts of color can renew their internal flame.”
Beyond standout features, Sagittarians also like patterns. Not ones to embrace a minimalist look, as Architectural Digest notes, they rarely opt for a home swathed in neutrals. Reflective of their adventurous spirits, busy wallpapers, striking art or patterned bedding are their standbys. Gentle curves also appeal: sweeping arches over doorways and windowsills, circular tables, and domed light fixtures all make a space feel inviting and approachable. Fireplaces and candles also create warmth and lively gathering spaces for friends and family.
